President Joko Widodo returned to directly inspect the locations affected by the earthquake in Cianjur, West Java on Thursday (24/11). This time, the number one person in Indonesia visited Cugenang District, which was the focal point of the Cianjur Earthquake last Monday.
“This was the epicenter and the worst, especially for the houses that collapsed the most was here. Even those who died, there are also many here,” said President Jokowi, quoted from the Press, Media and Information Bureau of the Presidential Secretariat (24/11/2022).
The President said that there were 39 victims who had not been found in Cugenang District. Therefore, he instructed his staff to prioritize the evacuation process.
The President explained that the evacuation process on the ground was faced with a number of obstacles such as steep terrain conditions and frequent rain and aftershocks. The President’s arrival to the earthquake-affected locations was also carried out to ensure the smooth distribution of logistical assistance to the victims could run well.

Meanwhile, regarding the rehabilitation of residents’ houses that were destroyed or damaged, the government promised to provide assistance.
“The most important thing is that after the evacuation is finished, the distribution of aid can reach all locations, then the next phase will be rehabilitation for houses that have collapsed heavily, moderately, or lightly,” said the President.
The President also greeted the survivors of the Cianjur Earthquake disaster at the evacuation sites while distributing some assistance.
“This is for gentlemen who have sarongs, ladies who have mukenas. Everyone got. Everyone is patient. The government will immediately (provide assistance) later it can be built by itself, it can be built by the government, it will be implemented immediately when the situation has calmed down,” said the President when meeting residents in the Cijedil Village evacuation center, Cugenang District, Cianjur Regency.
On the agenda, President Joko Widodo also visited the Sayang Cianjur Hospital to ensure that the earthquake victims received proper medical care.

The President’s visit was accompanied by Minister of Social Affairs Tri Rismaharini, Minister of Defense Prabowo Subianto, Minister of PUPR Basuki Hadimuljono, Minister of Human Development and Culture Muhadjir Effendy, Deputy Governor of West Java Uu Ruzhanul Ulum, Head of BNPB Suharyanto, and others.
According to information from Antara News, until the fourth day, BNPB recorded 272 deaths. There are 165 bodies that have been identified, while 107 others whose identities have not been verified.
