Max Verstappen Pessimistic with Red Bull Chance to Win at Hungarian GP

Red Bull Racing’s Max Verstappen is pessimistic about the speed of his car at the Hungaroring Circuit, Hungary after Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz appeared the fastest with the Ferrari he was driving in the practice session, Friday (29/7/2022).

Launching from f1i.com, Sainz recorded the fastest time in the first practice session with a time of 1 minute 18,750 seconds. Verstappen was in second place 0.130 seconds adrift.

In the second practice session, Leclerc appeared the fastest with a time of 1 minute, 18.445 seconds. While Verstappen is in fourth position with a time difference of 0.28 seconds.

“I think Ferrari will be in front of us this weekend and it will be difficult to beat them,” Verstappen was quoted as saying by f1i.com.

His team mate, Sergio Perez also looked hit during the free practice session. In the first session, Perez was able to finish in sixth place with a time of 1 minute 19.622 seconds. However, in the second practice session Perez had to settle for finishing ninth with a time of 1 minute 19.397 seconds.

Verstappen admits that the Hungaroring is not a good track for Red Bull Racing. The Dutch racer assessed that the dry track conditions at the Hungaroring made it difficult for Red Bull to appear as the fastest during the practice session. The car he drives still has to find the ideal balance when in high and low speed corners.

Racing this weekend, Verstappen admits the weather will have a huge impact on the Red Bull Racing team. He hopes there will be a little rain that wets the Hungaroring track when the race starts.

“In the dry season we can’t compete, so maybe in the rainy season we can. Who knows? We’ll see tomorrow,” said Verstappen.

This weekend’s victory is certainly very important for Verstappen to establish his position at the top of the 2022 F1 standings. Currently Verstappen has collected 233 points, 63 points ahead of Leclerc who is in second place.

F1 2022 competition will continue at the Hungarian GP (31/7/2022) at 20.00 WIB. All racers will also compete at the Hungaroring Circuit as the closing race before the summer break.
