Liverpool’s Best Journey in the Last Decade

In the 2020/2021 season or last season, Liverpool were really affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. Liverpool is very difficult to compete with other teams. The injury storm factor and the lack of squad depth were the main problems for this team last season.

Last season Liverpool had to settle for finishing third in the Premier League, behind Manchester City and Manchester United. They also have to accept the reality after being eliminated by Real Madrid in the last 8 phase of the European Champions League cup.

Improving from the previous season, the 2021/2022 season or this season with a squad that is not much different from the previous season, Liverpool were able to get up and run quite well for them, you could even say very well.

Liverpool won their first trophy of the season when they beat Chelsea in the 2021/2022 Carabao Cup final. Not an easy win for Liverpool, they had to work hard for 120 minutes before winning on penalties.

After that, they won their second trophy again beating Chelsea, this time in the FA Cup final on penalties as well.

There was an opportunity for Liverpool to win a ‘quadruple’ or four trophies at once in a season. Unfortunately Liverpool have to recognize Manchester City as the Premier League champions for the 2021/2022 season. Liverpool have been outstanding to compete with Manchester City, but it’s not enough.

Manchester City and Liverpool are only one point away in the Premier League. Despite failing to win the Premier League title, Liverpool are the team that has lost the least amount of games in the league this season and two of its players have won three awards in the Premier League.

Liverpool’s struggle to add to the title did not end there on May 29, 2022, Liverpool met Real Madrid in the European Champions League final which was held in Paris, France. In this match both teams lowered their best squad.

In that match Liverpool dominated the game, but it was very difficult to score a goal. At the beginning of the second half Liverpool’s defense was caught off guard, Real Madrid managed to score a goal against Liverpool guarded by Alisson Becker.

Until the end of the match Liverpool was still difficult to score due to the slick appearance of the Real Madrid goalkeeper. Until finally Liverpool had to recognize Real Madrid as the winner and champion of the European Champions League for the 14th time.

As a result of failing to win the English League trophy and the European Champions League trophy, Liverpool had to bury their dream of winning four titles at once in a year. Even so, the Liverpool team this season should be given the highest appreciation.

Especially the coach, Jurgen Klopp, who managed to mix this team with a modest squad depth to be able to compete for four trophies at once in a year with a very tight schedule.

According to former Manchester United player Rio Ferdinand “They are a good team, difficult to break and they are a very organized team. This is the best Liverpool team I have ever seen”.
