Indonesia Diversity Day: Understanding the Meaning of Diversity as Wealth

Suara.com together with Yoursay.id held a talk show “Beauty of Diversity” and awarding writing competition “Diversity Versiku”, in order to enliven Indonesia Diversity Day. The event was held on Monday (20/6/2022) at the Suara Jogja Office.

Indonesia Diversity Day departs from the portrait of Indonesia’s diversity which to this day has always been a discussion in the community. In fact, not infrequently there are still many minority groups who ultimately choose silence from the majority group.

However, the true diversity is not a problem. On the contrary, this is a wealth that is quite unique compared to other countries. From diversity, there are many things that can be made special.

In the talk show, a number of speakers were presented, starting from Diversity Activist, Inayah Wahid, Founder of DIFA Bike Triyono, and Joshua Jerusalem Dilapangga, Koko Jogja People’s Choice 2022.

“There are still many who feel discriminated against with the current conditions. But we learn to understand in the future that different people still have the same vision, that’s the important thing to instill,” said Triyono.

Agreeing with Triyono, Joshua made an analogy of diversity like nasi rames. In one plate, there is rice and various kinds of side dishes.

Inayah Wahid continued, diversity is a destiny that must be accepted by the Indonesian people. So, diversity returns to the personal community. Do you choose to accept being a strength or a source of trouble?

“Whether we disagree, however, we are angry, agreeing to disagree will not go away,” said Inayah.

The talkshow was followed by the Writing Competition Awards, to announce and give awards to the winners of the “Diversity Versiku” Writing Competition. The writing competition related to the issue of diversity was held from May 18 to June 15, 2022, through the Yoursay.id platform.
