Failed to shine, Liverpool are ready to release Minamino to a French club

Liverpool reportedly immediately released Takumi Minamino to French club, AS Monaco. The two clubs are even said to have reached an agreement on the transfer price for the Japanese national team player, as reported by Skysport.com. Liverpool’s decision to release Minamino is not surprising considering the player is rarely included in coach Jurgen Klopp’s first choice.

He lost competitiveness on the Liverpool front lines which had players like Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, Diogo Jota, Roberto Firmino to Douglas Luiz. His position can be even more difficult if he survives considering that Liverpool have just brought in Darwin Nunez.

However, Minamino actually appeared quite impressive by scoring 10 goals in all competitions. Minamino even became the Reds’ top scorer in the Carabao Cup and FA Cup. Minamino does not appear to be in Jurgen Klopp’s scheme of play at Liverpool next season.

A number of clubs immediately lined up to get the explosive winger. Monaco managed to win the race by paying a fee of 15 million euros, plus 3 million euros in add-ons. The news was confirmed by Sky Sports. Now Minamino just has to complete a personal contract and undergo a medical before moving to the Stade Louis II.

Minamino himself was brought in by Liverpool from RB Salzburg in December 2019. The 27-year-old player was redeemed for a fee that reached 12 million euros. Unfortunately, Minamino failed to be the main choice on Liverpool’s front lines. As a result, Minamino had a loan period at Southampton in the 2020/21 season.

Minamino has played 53 games in all competitions for Liverpool. He managed to score 14 goals and three assists from these appearances. Meanwhile, the Reds continued to hunt for new players after bringing in Darwin Nunez, Calvin Ramsay and Fabio Carvalho. After failing to bring Aurelien Tchouameni from Monaco, Liverpool are now turning their sights on Nicolo Barella.

The Inter midfielder is considered suitable for rejuvenating Liverpool’s midfield, which is now inhabited by players over 30 years old such as James Milner, Thiago Alcantara and Jordan Henderson. But Liverpool seems to need to spend a lot of money if they want to recruit Barella. Moreover, the player is a core player and a candidate for the new Nerazzurri captain.

If they fail to strengthen the midfield, Liverpool still have sufficient stock of midfielders such as Naby Keita, Harvey Elliott, Fabinho Curtis Jones, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. Then there is Fabio Carvalho, the new midfielder who was brought in from Fulham.
